Program Information for 5th and 6th grade:

• At Louise Archer we require parents to coach an event in order for their child to participate in the Science Olympiad program. Out of 23 events in Division B a student might expect to take part in 2 to 3 events (each with a partner).
• We anticipate that students will need to spend on average about 1 hour per week per event to prepare for competition. Please note that this pace might increase as we get closer to the tournament.
• One team of 15 students will represent the school at the Virginia State Science Olympiad tournament in the spring. Multiple teams (of up to 15 students) can participate in any invitational meets (usually 2 per season).
• Science Olympiad will offer twice weekly 1-hour sessions at school, beginning after Thanksgiving.
• Once a fortnight, we require students to attend one of the sessions so that we can assist and guide students. This is also a time for students to work with their partners and plan for their events
• Mrs. Sahai is the staff sponsor and coach for Div. B. Planning and registration begins in late Oct.

• multiple teams of up to 12 students participate in a one day meet held locally in the spring.
• Mrs. Kass is the staff sponsor and coach for Div. A. Planning usually begins after winter break.
